MORO NOTES - 19-25-Aug-2010 PDF Print E-mail

By Samira Gutoc , YMPN (19-25-Aug-2010)

At least some good news in ARMM. Known for its prudence in assisting development efforts across the globe, the World Bank (WB) reiterated its “very satisfactory” rating on the implementation of socio-economic and infrastructure projects in the poverty-stricken communities of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). Hmmm, how come not many of us are satisfied?

The biggest mistake of Ms. Philippines Venus Raj ? Not answering Alec Baldwin’s question about a mistake she had done in her life during the Ms UNIVERSE pageant's FINAL QUESTION portion.. and led to the Finale for the top cyber choice Ms. RAJ.

Iranian Ambassador to the Philippines Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani, in his courtesy call to acting Regional Governor Ansaruddin Alonto-Adiong at the ARMM-Manila liaison office, ensured his government’s assistance on the region’s requirements in education, medicines, and in fruits marketing abroad.

MORO NOTES - 11-21-Aug-2010 PDF Print E-mail

By Samira Gutoc , YMPN (11-21-Aug-2010)

It's a RAMADHAN AF-FAIR on EID'ul Fitr (End of Fast)  in Cotabato and Manila. Join us September 11 onwards.

The ARMM Social Welfare Office has gone a long way in serving thousands of evacuees. It's World Bank-funded buildings in Cotabato City are the legacy of then Social Welfare Secretary and former MNLF Bainon Karon. The able Assistant Secretary  Pombae Karon was worried of the impact of another fighting among fronts  going on in Datu Blah Sinsuat that led to BURNING of homes. This would entail more shelters and food for another face of the war - vendetta.

Good luck to the fasting  barristers who will take the September BAR EXAMINATIONS, the hardest exams they say among all board tests! I remember fasting the whole month of the 2008 bar examinations. Lunchtimes at the exam site in La Salle were tempting but thankfully I was able to muster the fast along with other Muslim barristers. Even if I didn't pass the exams, it was worth experiencing the sacrifice.

Congratulations to the new doctors who passed the rigorous board examinations.

To Davaoenos, best wishes on your Kadayawan festival !

Ms. Philippines - Universe VENUS RAJ tops cyber surveys for the August 24 tilt. To think she was almost dethroned for inconsistencies in her papers.

We ain't bloodthirsty, it's Ramadhan. MILF twits the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) in reaction to  its Aug. 12 headline, "MILF girds for war, Aquino braces for talks". "This headline is ill-timed for the Ramadan where Muslims are fasting to restrain themselves from any wrongdoing..," said Mohagher Iqbal, MILF chief information officer and chairman of the deactivated MILF Peace Panel.

"Don't exaggerate and don't opinionate or editorialize what otherwise are straight facts from a particular event or happening like the interview with Chairman Murad during the MILF-FOCAP Forum on the Peace Process last August 10," Iqbal said.

One Moro Consciousness, One Moro Nation PDF Print E-mail

(Robert Muhammed Maulana M. Alonto, speech delivered before the Young Moro Professionals’ Network, Cagayan de Oro City, August 1, 2010.)

Assaalamo ‘alaykom wa rahmaullahi wa barakatuho.

Let me begin by expressing my thanks to the officers and members of the Young Moro Professionals’ Network for inviting me to this auspicious affair.

In particular, I wish to thank Brother Drieza Lininding and Sister Samira Gutoc for this invitation.

As I was telling Brother Drieza earlier, I was afraid I would not be able to attend this affair because of previous commitments, both personal and Movement-related. In fact, I suggested that Brother Professor Abhoud Syed Lingga, the Executive Director of the Institute of Bangsamoro Studies (IBS), would be a very good substitute for me. Not only do Brother Abhoud and I belong to the IBS, our friendship and brotherhood go a long way back when we were in college together in the late 60s and later in the Moro Revolution in the 70s.

On second thought, however, when the original schedule of this affair was moved to the present date, I had no more reason to excuse myself and decline the invitation. Apart from that, a more compelling reason that is personal in nature, so to speak, convinced and moved me to attend this affair.
